On Batting first at this lovely ground we got off to a decent start with 53 put on for the 1st wicket (Graham Twigg 13) . Another wicket shortly followed at which Lawrence Down joined opener Sam Birt out in the middle. What followed was a joy to watch as these 2 put together a partnership of 202 . Sam getting an unbeaten maiden century ( Although caught on 99 which luckily for him was a no-ball !) and Lawrence an unbeaten 106. This also is a club record for the 3rd wicket. Off of our allotted 35 overs we totalled 274 for 2. The Swanage innings started slowly but with A. Lyons (53) and C. Dyke (49) coming together they gave it a go chasing our total. Eventually Paul Rendell claimed the wickets of these two (2-30) and with Graham Twigg taking 2-23 , the Swanage innings finished 92 runs short at 182-6. This game was dedicated to Gwen Pratt (nee Warren) who passed away last year. Gwen was our original scorer who was with us when the club was formed in 1977. She scored for many years and carried on supporting us after she hung up her pencil. In those early years there were many ex- Oakmead schoolboys that played for the club of which she knew and always called them her boys. Her real boys Trevor ( still playing ) and Willie were part of those early years as was her late first Husband Bill . Daughter Teresa took over the scoring duties from her mum and is still a supporter of the club. It was good too see all the Warren clan at the ground and enjoy the day and the sunshine. RIP Gwennie .
